Our Trip To The Shop

PA050006The children have been very busy this week. After looking back through their learning journeys, the children decided they would like to make some sandwiches,  some had remembered enjoying that activity after reflecting on the photos from last term.

During a group discussion we talked about what ingredients we would need and some of the children wrote a shopping list. We talked about how we would get to the shop safely and the children assessed their own risks.

“We will need our listening ears”

“We will need to hold hands”

“We have to walk on the pavement, the cars don’t go on there”

“We have to stop at the traffic lights”

“We have to listen to the adults”

PA050009PA050018We visited the local Co-op where the children found the items from their shopping list. At the till the children watched and discussed what was happening.

“That is a scanner, it beeps all our things.”

“How much will it cost?”

“I think we will need lots of money for all this.”

“My mum always spends lots of money.”

“That is a receipt it tells you how much money you need.”

On our return to Pre-school the children were excited to make their sandwiches. They all made choices as to what they would put in their sandwich. There were a few interesting ones!!

PA050048 PA050056As the children sat chatting and filling their sandwiches they decided they would like to make their own shop. After discussing what they may need to do that, they found their own resources and got to work on the new build. With some adult support with construction it wasn’t long before the new shop was up and running. The children made signs and appointed a shop assistant. Then stocked the new shop with the sandwiches they had made. All that was left to do was think of a name for it.

“Toyshop”

“Jamie’s”

“Powland”

There was only one way to decide fairly, so we put it to a vote, the winning name …………. Toyshop!!!

Since the shop opened the children have been able to have some fantastic imaginative role play, drawing on their own experiences.  The shop has been transformed into a Doctors a garage and an ice cream shop. We are looking forward to seeing how the children will expand on this over the coming weeks.
