Living Eggs
Having received our delivery of eggs last Monday, we are very excited to tell you we now have 9 healthy chicks.
The children had been excitedly watching for changes in the eggs and listening for chirping. Whilst developing rules for caring for the chicks once they had hatched. We have also discussed how we can take turns to feed water and clean the chicks, to support Personal Social and Emotional Development.
The children were asked to think about names for the chicks, which we discussed as a group at circle time, the names were written down and then the children voted for the names they wanted. so we would now like to introduce you to ; Macdonald, George, Pepper Chick, Nugget, Charlie Chick, Humpty, Cutie Pie, Albert and Stripes.
This coming week the children will have lots of opportunities for playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically.
We will be doing some observational drawings and small world farm activities to support Expressive Arts and Design.
Using dance and instruments to recreate the hatching experience and building enclosures to support Physical Development.
Looking at life cycles and making comparisons with ourselves to support Understanding Of The World.
The children will be weighing the chicks and watching movements as they are placed outside of the brooder box, describing positions, to support Mathematics.
The children will also be keeping a diary, and using books and ICT to find out answers to any questions, a group of children visited the library on Friday to borrow some books and shared their experience with others. We will also be using Role Play singing songs and listening to stories, all of which will support Communication Language and Literacy.
Look out for invitations coming home soon, we would love for you to be part of this amazing experience too.
